On a mission to see more Asian-Australian stories on our stages, we’ve teamed up with Performance 4a to discover a new generation of playwrights.
The Lotus Asian-Australian Playwriting project provides high calibre training and mentoring for Asian-Australian artists who are interested in writing for theatre.
Our goal is to energise a groundswell in contemporary Asian-Australian theatre as a way to address the shortage of high quality new plays from this vibrant and creative community.
In partnership with Performance 4a, we will identify and nurture extraordinary new voices and stories from perspectives rarely experienced in mainstage Australian theatre.
We are offering writers:
- Free workshops: providing a fun and practical introduction to writing for the stage
- The Salon: a six-month mentoring program for those who want to learn more
- Play development and showcase: an opportunity to see the best scripts performed
In the long-term, we’ll be working with Performance 4a and theatre companies around the country to see that the most promising new works make it to production.
