Monash University’s Faculty of Arts is hosting the 2014 international conference of the European Association for Studies on Australia (EASA):
“Encountering Australia: Transcultural Conversations”
Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 September, 2014 – Monash University Prato Centre, ITALY
Through a vibrant, intellectually and creatively engaging programme, this international conference will provide a platform for enquiry into new and recent transcultural debates on encountering Australia. It enhances the sharing of knowledge by bringing together researchers and creative practitioners.
The conference theme, Encountering Australia, invites interdisciplinary engagement. We will consider contributions on various sub-topics related to the broad theme. Whether you are a postgraduate student, an early career researcher or experienced academic/practitioner, please consider offering a paper at the conference.
Topics for papers and panels may include:
- documentary encounters
- migration, mobility and diaspora
- environment and climate change
- histories of war and violence
- experimental and avant-garde encounters
- personal, national and collective memory
- embodied encounters
- gendered and sexual encounters
- expatriate communities and collectives
- narrative and performative encounters
