UPDATE: Media release – PDF FLYER: 4A Vertical Villages_Media Release low final

Beginning Monday 15 July and over the course of this month, Indonesian art collective ruangrupa and Australian artist Keg de Souza, admired internationally for their socially-driven art practices, are artists-in-residence at 4A. Together they are collaborating on a new project leading up to Vertical Villages, an exhibition at 4A opening on 5th September 2013.

Vertical Villages investigates the experience of international students living in Sydney’s CBD and the relationship between communities’ daily lives and their urban and spatial environments.

Over the course of July, key members of ruangrupa’s Art Lab from Jakarta, Reza Afisina and Hauritsa are in residence in Sydney, working with Keg de Souza on a series of workshops, discussions and studio sessions to map the social, cultural and spatial experiences of people living and working in the Sydney CBD.

4A’s ground floor is now activated as a temporary studio for the artists, an organic creative space in which to meet, talk and collaborate.

Coming up over the next few weeks, the artists will be hosting a series of workshops that engage international students in a dialogue about social mobility and urban density, further connecting their experiences in Sydney with students in Jakarta via online platforms.
