Overview:  

Griffith University is looking to appoint up to four Research Fellows in International Relations/Comparative Politics. Each fellowship is for a fixed period of four years. The fellowship positions are research-only for the first year, with a one course per year equivalent teaching load in each of the second, third and fourth years.

These are fixed term (4 years), full time positions based at the Nathan campus, Queensland, Australia.

Griffith University is located in South-East Queensland and is one of Australia’s largest multi-campus universities, which is home to 43,000 students and 3,500 staff. These positions are based at the Nathan campus, Brisbane. Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland and is Australia’s third largest city.

The role:
Successful candidates will be expected to publish with the leading journals and/or presses in the field, as well as conduct research broadly oriented around the themes of governance, security and/or development. The empirical focus of this policy-oriented research will be the Asia-Pacific region.

Griffith University has identified research on governance, security and development in the Asia-Pacific as a funding priority within Griffith’s broader strategy of maintaining its top-ranked position in political science in Australia.

Fellows will be located jointly at the Griffith Asia Institute and the Centre for Governance and Public Policy and associated with the School of Government and International Relations. In 2012 political science at Griffith University received the highest possible ranking in the Australian government’s research assessment exercise.

The person:
To be successful in the role candidates must have:

  • a doctorate in Political Science/International Relations or related field,
  • a significant track record of publications in the leading book presses and/or leading international journals in the field;
  • a program of research in governance, security and/or development; and
  • a track record and/or planned program of empirical research on the Asia-Pacific region.

It is desirable though not essential that candidates have some focus in one of the following areas: international security; or governance; or international organizations; or human rights and the Responsibility to Protect; or political economy.

Successful candidates must be able to take up the position before 31 March 2014.

Salary range: 

Research Fellow, Grade 2: AUD $80,964 – $96,148 per annum. Salary package including 17% superannuation contribution: AUD $94,729 – $112,494 per annum.
